More genuine putting wisdom from Yes! Golf…true & plain
Originally launched in 2001, Trueplane was born out of cold, hard mathematical analysis of putting mechanics and their relation to the human body.
Then original findings were presented at The 2002 World Scientific Congress of Golf (IV). It’s is based on the putting stroke used by nearly all tour pros, in which the stroke is controlled by turning the shoulders with passive hands and arms. Putting is that part of the game of golf where precision rather than power is the focus. And this technique keeps the number of moving parts to a minimum. By making the stroke as simple as possible, this helps promote the most effective and consistent way to putt.
Nearly all Tour pros use a slightly inside-to-inside stroke. This is because it is much more natural to turn the shoulders on a slightly inclined plane than a vertical plane. Using Trueplane your putter path will be a perfect plane and, by following the guide line, the putter will follow the perfect arc.
The face of the putter, meanwhile, should open a little on the backswing and close a little on the follow-through for an inside-to-inside stroke. This is best brought about by turning the shoulders on an inclined plane, with no rotation of the hands or arms. The face lines on the Trueplane base have been calculated mathematically as the correct neutral putter face positions. By matching the putter face with these lines, you will be in the perfect position to swing the putter smoothly through the ball without needing to engage hands or arms.
Inventor Roger Brooks (a mathematician and scientist with a mathematics degree from Oxford University and a PhD in mathematical modelling and computer simulation from Birmingham University) recalls that, at the time, it wasn't obvious that an inclined plane was the ideal putting stroke. Concurrently, there was an ongoing debate as to whether straight-back-straight-through or inside-to-inside was the better stroke.
Nowadays nearly all players and coaches concur inside-to-inside is best and this is partly due to Trueplane.
The initial contact with Yes! Golf contact came about through Dr Brooks meeting Harold Swash and Harold Swash Putting School director of training Phil Kenyon at Pro Tour events. There was already a lot of interest from the pros, because Trueplane was completely original.
According to Peter Allison – MD of Yes! Golf UK – the initial take-up on TruePlane last winter (after just an initial promotional offer to the proshops) cleaned out the entire Yes! Golf stock of 150 units in a week. Allison puts it down to the device’s simplicity and high visual presence.
TruePlane is now available at American Golf, club proshops and JJB Sports – as well as via the Yes! Website www.yesgolf.co.uk . RRP is £44.99
